About provfiska

provfiska.se is a true-to-life simulation of fishing real Swedish lakes. The idea is simple: practise and get to know a water before you travel there — see how time of day, season and weather move the bite, try techniques and find the right depth.

It isn't a game, and it isn't a real-time forecast. It's an educational tool: the fishing is simulated from fish biology and the water's real conditions, so you can experiment freely and understand why fish bite.

provfiska is free, needs no account, and is available in Swedish, English and German.

The data behind it

The simulation is built on real data: SLU fish surveys, SMHI weather, terrain and shoreline from Lantmäteriet's elevation and land-cover data — and the lake bottom from SMHI's scanned depth charts where the lake has been sounded, modelled from its real max and mean depth elsewhere. It all runs on the same fishing science that powers real bite forecasts.
